Dan hails from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He and his wife Susan have been married for 32 years. Dan spent 14 years in service to our Country in the United States Army. He began tying in 1992 as a hobby and it was easy to see he was extremely good at it. That hobby evolved over the years and his passion for tying flies slowly matured in to his current business; Dan’s Hand Tied Flies.
Dan has worked his way up the fly-tying industry ladder the old fashioned way; he earned it. Much like his time in the military, Dan committed to tying in a way that those people around him noticed. Anyone can call himself or herself a fly tyer, but not many have true “credit” with the guides on the river. We have sat back and watched Dan’s reputation with guides on cold & warm water streams continually grow over the years. There aren't many fly boxes on the White, Norfork, Buffalo, Taneycomo, Niangua, and North Fork of the White Rivers that don’t have some of his handy work inside.
He has also seen much respect from Ozark fly shops and media. Dan has tied flies for Nite Lite Outdoors, Bill's Bait & Tackle both of Clarksville and Gone Fishin Tackle Co in Austin,Texas. He has been featured in Warmwater Magazine in the June/July issue 1999 and appeared on Arklahoma Outdoors KFSM TV 5 in July 2000. You can find plenty of Dan’s Flies in the Ozarks at Wishes and Fishes Fly Shop, Two Rivers Fly Shop, and the Little Red Fly Shop.
Dan’s not one of those production fly tyers who doesn't know which end of a fly rod is up. You will often see him drifting the Ozark waters with a tight line and a smile on his face. Dan is a true Ozark Fly Tyer and we encourage you to follow him on Facebook and ask your local fly shop for a few of his flies.
