Fly of the Month: Christmas Tree (Atlantic Salmon Spring Streamer)
This old classic Bucktail streamer that bears a festive name is one that we tie for our dealers in northeastern Canada for spring Atlantic Salmon. Specifically designed for the famous Miramichi river Spring Salmon fishery (April - May), this and many other similar patterns have origins that date back to the '30s and '40s. In the spring, the salmon are mostly feeding on blue Smelt. Most spring streamers, like the Christmas tree, do not “match the hatch” but can be the most effective fly pattern of the day!
Though this pattern was designed for Atlantic Salmon, try this pattern or different color variations of the same style for trout and steelhead near you and you will see how effective a pattern it is. Killer lake fly for sure!
